∗ Department of Production Engineering, Faculty of Engineering King Mongkut's Institute of Technology North Bangkok Abstract This paper describes a one-dimensional distributive tactile system that can be used to determine simple contact parameters such as weight, size and position. The system is a simply supported beam on which load position was determined from the induced deflection. This research implements the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) that can effectively increase the accuracy by pre-processing sensory signals before putting through to the interpretation algorithm. The application of the PCA has shown an improved accuracy in determining an applied load position as the determination error reduces to 0.44% compared to 1.77% before applying the PCA. In addition to improved accuracy, the system also benefits from the fundamental principle of the PCA as it has shown that the original data of beam deflections can be compressed into a more meaningful form and a smaller number of transformed data are required to infer the contact parameter.

Influences of sensing positions on principal components and performance of a one-dimensional distributive tactile sensor
This paper describes an arrangement of a one-dimensional distributive tactile sensing system that can be used to determine an applied position of a point load of a constant magnitude. The performance of the system was examined using inputs derived from a mathematical model and a back propagation neural network as an interpretation algorithm. Performances of the system with 2–8 inputs with and w...
متن کاملAn approach to optimise the critical sensor locations in one-dimensional novel distributive tactile surface to maximise performance
The distributive approach to tactile sensing is a novel approach. The method relies on the distributed deformation of the surface in response to the applied load to a few sensing points within the surface area. The description of the contacting load is then interpreted into meaningful descriptors typically by using a neural network or fuzzy rules. The method has been shown to interpret descript...

متن کاملAn application of principal component analysis and logistic regression to facilitate production scheduling decision support system: an automotive industry case
Production planning and control (PPC) systems have to deal with rising complexity and dynamics. The complexity of planning tasks is due to some existing multiple variables and dynamic factors derived from uncertainties surrounding the PPC. Although literatures on exact scheduling algorithms, simulation approaches, and heuristic methods are extensive in production planning, they seem to be ineff...
